For bed frames, untreated wood is typically preferred because it’s safer for indoor use, free from harmful chemicals, and offers a natural, aesthetic finish that can be stained or painted (or kept raw for a rustic, shabby look). Treated wood, while more resistant to moisture and pests, is not ideal for indoor furniture due to potential chemical off-gassing, especially in sleeping areas. Unless the frame is intended for outdoor or high-moisture environments, untreated wood is the healthier and more suitable choice.
To clean an untreated wood bed frame, dust regularly and wipe with a damp cloth using mild soap and water—avoid soaking the wood. Dry immediately. For deeper care, apply a small amount of natural oil (like linseed or mineral oil), let it soak in, then buff off the excess. Avoid harsh cleaners and chemicals.
