California king beds are approximately 72” x 84” (6ft x 7ft), providing enough space for couples to sleep with plenty of room to spare. They are often favoured in larger rooms as a statement piece, however, there’s no reason why single sleepers can’t have California kings too. Who doesn’t like a bit of extra space?

What is The Difference Between a King and California King Size Bed?

Unlike a king size bed with its standard counterpart, the California king bed is not the same width. California king frames measure 72” x 84” (6ft x 7ft), whereas the standard king bed is wider yet shorter at 76” x 80” (6ft 4” x 6ft 8”). Both of these beds have their advantages, but it all comes down to your personal preferences and needs.

What is a California King Bed?

Cal king bed frames are similar to king beds, but their dimensions are very different. They are typically longer and narrower than a king, so are great for taller people or those who value plenty of space when they sleep. 

Can King Sheets Fit a California King?

Unfortunately, king sheets will struggle to fit a much larger California king bed. California kings are much longer and narrower than standard kings, so trying to fit king size sheets might damage them. We recommend referring to our bed size guide to get the most accurate measurements. 

What Size Rug Fits a California King?

Rugs can add great style to your bedroom, and placing it underneath the bed can create a nice contrast between the frame and floor. For California kings, we recommend a rug that is slightly bigger than the frame itself. The perfect size is either 9’ x 12’ or 10’ 14’.
